For the fourth time in his career, Matt Painter has been named the B1G Coach of the Year.
Painter was named the winner of the award on Monday after leading Purdue to a B1G regular season title and a 23-8 record overall. The Boilermakers’ success comes a year after losing four senior starters.
After starting the year 6-5 and suffering an ugly loss to Notre Dame, Purdue responded well, winning 17 of its last 20 games. The Boilermakers posted wins over Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan State, Maryland and Iowa this season.
Painter has been named the B1G Coach of the Year three times prior to the 2018-19 season. He was named the award recipient in 2007-08, 2009-10 and 2010-11.
The Boilermakers will be a No. 2 seed in the B1G Tournament later this week.
