Michigan State is now alone at the top.

Entering this year’s postseason, Michigan State had 65 all-time victories in the NCAA Tournament, ranking second in the B1G behind Indiana, which owns 66 wins. After two wins, the Spartans are now the conference leader in that category.

Michigan State tied Indiana’s mark with a 76-65 win over Bradley in the first round on Thursday and surpassed the total on Saturday by defeating Minnesota 70-50 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. It’s the first time MSU has reached the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament since 2015.

That accomplishment is pretty significant.

Equally as impressive is that head coach Tom Izzo has been responsible for nearly 75 percent of those victories, and hit another career milestone on Saturday. The Spartans’ win over Minnesota also marked the 50th NCAA Tournament win for Izzo, who has been the head coach with the program for 24 years.

In his career in East Lansing, Izzo has guided the Spartans to seven Final Four appearances and one national championship (2000). Michigan State has a great opportunity to reach college basketball’s pinnacle again the season.

Earlier this year, Izzo also got career win No. 600.

While Michigan State has been a college basketball force for over two decades now, this season has been full of significant milestones for the program. It has a great chance to make it even more memorable in the coming weeks.
