There’s no question that Dick Vitale has some impressive credentials when it comes to college basketball. He’s been around the game for so long, there aren’t many people who can provide the same insight as the longtime ESPN broadcaster.
On Monday, though, Vitale ruffled some feathers when he made an appearance on a local Baton Rouge radio station to talk about the alleged scandal surrounding Will Wade and the LSU basketball program. He isn’t going to be making any friends in Louisiana.
Vitale went on a tirade regarding Wade and LSU during an interview with Jordy Culotta and T-Bob Hebert 104.5 ESPN Radio. He pointed to the wiretaps and transcripts involving Wade as the foundation of his argument.
And when it came to LSU fans criticizing Vitale for his stance — while also supporting coaches like Sean Miller, Rick Pitino and Bill Self — the ESPN broadcaster said “They’re defending something that’s indefensible.”
This might be one of the most animated interviews ever with the legendary college basketball figure, and it’s certainly worth a listen:
