Justin Fields arrived in Columbus over the winter and has been practicing with Ohio State this spring. But it wasn’t until Monday that the former five-star quarterback officially became a Buckeye.
After Monday’s practice, Ohio State announced that Fields has lost his black stripe, signifying that he’s done enough to be an official Buckeye. The official Twitter account of Ohio State Football released the news Monday afternoon.

Fields has taken first-team reps this spring and is the anticipated starter for the 2019 season. But regardless of hype or star ranking, every player has to earn their way to becoming a member of the Ohio State football program, and the quarterback has done so this spring.
This spring, Fields will be battling Matthew Baldwin for the top spot on the depth chart.
After spending one season in Athens, Fields opted to leave Georgia for Ohio State. He was intrigued by Ryan Day’s ability to coach the quarterback position and saw the kind of success Dwayne Haskins had with the Buckeyes last fall.
In one season with the Bulldogs, Fields threw for 328 yards, rushed for 266 more and accounted for eight total touchdowns.
Ohio State cornerback Darryl Sinclair II also lost his black stripe on Monday.
