Like father, like son.
On Thursday, Niagara University announced that Patrick Beilein, son of Michigan head coach John Beilein, would become the school’s new head basketball coach. It will be his first head coaching job at the Division I level.
Reports that a deal was being finalized between Beilein and Niagara came out on Thursday morning and the school made the official announcement around the noon hour that same day.
“Patrick Beilein, a rising star in the coaching profession, has been named the 22nd head coach of the Niagara University men’s basketball program,” Niagara announced via Twitter.

Beilein has spent the last four seasons at Le Moyne, a Division II program located in New York. He was 77-41 while with the program, but his teams went 67-24 in his final three seasons. His father also coached at Le Moyne from 1983-1992.
He was also the head coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College from 2012-14 and has had previous stops throughout his career at the college and NBA levels. He was a player development coach for the Utah Jazz in 2014 and was the director of basketball operations at Bradley from 2011-12. Beilein was an assistant coach at Dartmouth in 2010 and 2011 and was a graduate assistant at Michigan from 2008-10.
Beilein played for his father at West Virginia.
