Nebraska made a big-time hire earlier this week, announcing that Fred Hoiberg would be the next head basketball coach. It’s a move that has folks in Lincoln excited about the future of program.
That includes Scott Frost.
During Hoiberg’s press conference earlier this week, Frost was in attendance, showing his support for the basketball program and the new hire. He even shared an elevator ride with the newly appointed coach on the way to speak with the media.
It’s pretty clear that Frost is excited about the hire and believes Hoiberg can do some good things with the program. He sees both the football and basketball programs heading in similar directions.
“We’re going to be on a similar track, trying to get these two programs to where they belong,” Frost told the Omaha World-Herald. “I can’t wait to watch him work.”
Nebraska is coming off a 19-17 season and an NIT appearance. The Huskers had much higher goals this year, though, with NCAA Tournament aspirations. With Hoiberg in charge — having guided Iowa State to four March Madness appearances in five years — fans are hoping Nebraska will enjoy similar postseason success.
Frost is entering his second season with the program after finishing the 2018 campaign with a 4-8 record. Many believe the Huskers are a top 25 team on the field next fall.
