Report: Steve Alford in contract negotiations with Nevada

Steve Alford will likely be a college basketball head coach again in the very near future.
On Monday, Seth Davis of The Athletic reported that Alford was in contract negotiations with Nevada. Later, Jon Rothstein tweeted that other candidates for the position were notified that a current contract negotiation was in place.
Alford was most recently at UCLA, where we spent five-and-a-half seasons as head coach. He was fired after a 7-6 start to the 2018-19 campaign. He was 124-63 and led the Bruins to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including three Sweet Sixteen visits.
Before taking over at UCLA, Alford spent six years at New Mexico, guiding the Lobos to six postseason appearances — three NCAA Tournament berths and three NIT appearances. Prior to that, he was the head coach at Iowa for eight seasons, leading the Hawkeyes to three March Madness appearances.
The former Indiana University star has a career record of 509-269 at the Division I level in 24 years as a head coach. He’s made 11 NCAA Tournament trips.
