Rashan Gary was the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2016 recruiting class and now he’s a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Gary was taken by the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night with the No. 12 pick. He was selected two spots after former teammate Devin Bush, who was picked at No. 10 by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
There was some concern about Gary as a high draft pick this year, both from a production and health standpoint. In three seasons with the Wolverines, the defensive lineman totaled just 10 sacks. In 2018, he missed three games to a shoulder injury, an issue that was flagged during a medical exam recently.
But Gary still possesses incredible upside and is still an athletic freak. Clearly, the Packers love the potential he brings to the franchise and isn’t too worried with the production and health concerns.
Gary finished his career at Michigan with 24.5 tackles for loss and 134 total stops. Now his career will continue in Green Bay.
