For a sixth-straight year, Indiana has produced an NFL Draft pick.
Former Hoosiers offensive guard Wes Martin was the first Hoosier to be selected in the 2019 NFL Draft, taken by the Washington Redskins with the 131st pick on Saturday afternoon. He’s the third IU offensive lineman to be selected in the last four years.
Martin was a key member of Indiana’s offensive line for the last four seasons, making starts in 43 games and appearing in all 50 career games in Bloomington. He was a four-time Academic All-B1G player and earned honorable mention All-B1G honors in 2017 and 2018.
Though several offensive lineman can play multiple positions throughout their career, Martin spent all of his time at the left guard spot.
Martin brings plenty of experience and strength to the offensive line and is able to hold blocks well. He also has quick feet and read defenses well. The biggest knocks on his game are that he’s a little slow out of his stance and doesn’t get much leverage from his lower body.
Still, Martin seems like a great value pick for the Redskins in the fourth round.
