Michigan had four players selected in the first two days of the NFL Draft, but it was Day 3 when the Wolverines’ first offensive player was taken.

Tight end Zach Gentry was the 141st pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, going to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was the first B1G player taken in the fifth round and was the first offensive player selected for the Wolverines this year.

Early in the fifth round, Michigan has produced five draft picks — four of which are defensive players.

Gentry toyed with the idea of returning to Ann Arbor for one final season before opting to keep his name in the NFL Draft. At 6-foot-8, the tight end brings good size to the field for quarterbacks to utilize.

Over the last two years with the Wolverines, Gentry was a solid target in Michigan’s passing attack. He caught 49 passes for 817 yards and four touchdowns in 2017 and 2018. He appeared in all 26 games in the last two seasons.

Scouts like Gentry’s frame, route-running ability and see his blocking as a strength. The biggest question mark seems to be his consistency catching passes, something he struggled with at Michigan.

Pittsburgh is going to give the tight end a change to prove himself at the NFL level.
