Michigan’s extremely talented and crowded quarterback room is reportedly losing one member.
Sam Webb of 247Sports reported on Saturday morning that former four-star quarterback Brandon Peters has entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal and will explore other opportunities outside of Ann Arbor. According to the report, Peters intended to travel with the team to South Africa and head coach Jim Harbaugh is continuing to allow the quarterback to use Michigan’s facilities.
Peters played in 10 career games with the Wolverines, but receiving his most significant in late 2017. He led Michigan to wins over Rutgers, Minnesota and Maryland as the leader under center before suffering an injury against Wisconsin. He then returned to the field in the Outback Bowl against South Carolina.
While his statistics that season weren’t eye-popping — 672 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions — he appeared to be a contender to win the starting job. But Shea Patterson’s arrival in Ann Arbor before the 2018 season put that on hold.
In addition to Patterson, Peters has had to battle Dylan McCaffrey and Joe Milton in the quarterback room, all former four-star prospects. Last year, Peters threw just two passes, completing one for eight yards.
Peters plans to complete his degree at Michigan before leaving, which would make him immediately eligible as a graduate transfer. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
