Micah Shrewsberry has decided to reunite with Matt Painter in West Lafayette.

Following the end of the Boston Celtics’ season, Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe reported that Shrewsberry intends to leave the NBA and will rejoin the coaching staff at Purdue. He was an assistant with the Boilermakers from 2011-13 before accepting a position on Brad Stevens’ staff.

Shrewsberry started his journey on the NBA sidelines in 2013 and has spent the last six seasons in Boston.

Shrewsberry was an assistant coach on Brad Stevens’ staff at Butler from 2008-11, when the Bulldogs earned back-to-back trips to the national championship game. He then joined Painter’s staff in 2011-13.

Before stops at Butler and Purdue, Shrewsberry was the director of basketball operations at Marshall from 2003-05. He was also the head coach at Indiana University South Bend from 2005-07.

Purdue was looking to fill a vacancy on its staff after assistant coach Greg Gary took a head coaching job at Mercer.

The Boilermakers finished the year as B1G regular season champions and reached the Elite Eight this past season.
