In the world of college football coaching, there are really only two names that have reached elite status: Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney. It’s no surprise that those two rank No. 1 and No. 2 in CBS Sports’ latest rankings of the 65 Power Five head coaches.

But where do the B1G head coaches stack up? As you’ll notice below, there are some interesting rankings that CBS has produced.

Below is a list of where every B1G head coach ranks, compared to the other Power Five conference coaches. There is no head coach ranked inside the top 10, and Chris Ash sits at the very bottom. So, clearly there isn’t such high regard for the coaches in the conference:

  • No. 11 — James Franklin, Penn State
  • No. 13 — Mark Dantonio, Michigan State
  • No. 15 — Jim Harbaugh, Michigan
  • No. 16 — Pat Fitzgerald, Northwestern
  • No. 22 — Kirk Ferentz, Iowa
  • No. 23 — Paul Chryst, Wisconsin
  • No. 25 — Scott Frost, Nebraska
  • No. 28 — Jeff Brohm, Purdue
  • No. 44 — P.J. Fleck, Minnesota
  • No. 45 — Ryan Day, Ohio State
  • No. 60 — Lovie Smith, Illinois
  • No. 61 — Tom Allen, Indiana
  • No. 62 — Mike Locksley, Maryland
  • No. 65 — Chris Ash, Rutgers

2019 will be an important year for several B1G head coaches and some could find themselves higher on this list next year if they produce a good season. If not, we may not see their name on this list at all in 2020.

So, let the debate begin. Who’s too high and who’s too low in these rankings from CBS Sports?
