Nebraska running back Maurice Washington has been appointed an attorney from the Santa Clara County (California) Public Defender’s Office following his appearance in court on Monday, according to a report.
Omaha World-Herald reported on Monday that Washington had a court hearing and was assigned an attorney who will represent him in a case in which he faces allegations of forwarding a pornographic video of a minor.
Another court appointment has been scheduled for June 12 to enter a plea. It was originally reported that Washington had entered a not-guilty plea in April, however, there have not yet been any pleas made in the case.
Washington has been accused of violating California’s revenge porn law after sending a video of his former girlfriend performing a sexual act back to her in a text message conversation. The girl was 15 years of age at the time and claims she was being sexually assaulted. Washington did not assault the girl or record the video, according to Omaha World-Herald.
Washington did not appear in court on Monday, but participated via telephone.
