Former Fab Five member Juwan Howard will at least get an interview for the head coaching position at Michigan, according to a report.
The Michigan Insider reported that University of Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel is scheduled to meet with Howard about the vacancy on Tuesday. The interview will come a little over a week after John Beilein decided to leave the program to become the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Howard has been a name ESPN analysts Jay Williams and Jalen Rose have thrown out for the job. Rose, who was a teammate of Howard’s at Michigan, said it is a “no brainer” to bring Howard back to Ann Arbor, considering his knowledge, credibility and experience.
While Howard doesn’t have any experience as a head coach, he has spent the last six years serving as an assistant coach for the NBA’s Miami Heat.
Howard has been one of several names thrown out as a potential candidate for the job. Others have included Billy Donovan (Oklahoma City Thunder), Shaka Smart (Texas), Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics) and Johnny Dawkins (UCF), among others.
