Iowa might be undefeated, but the College Football Playoff Selection Committee still believes the Hawkeyes have work to do.

The Hawkeyes cracked the first CFP poll at No. 9 behind No. 7 Michigan State and No. 3 Ohio State. Iowa helped the B1G to become the only conference to have three teams ranked in the top nine. Michigan came in at No. 17 and Northwestern was at No. 21.

Iowa did not make the initial top four, though it certainly has an argument. Alabama and Iowa are the only two teams in the country with three wins against teams that received votes in the latest Associated Press poll.

The Hawkeyes will still have the opportunity to make it into the top four, despite the fact that they don’t have a game against a ranked opponent in their final four regular season game.

Iowa would likely be a lock to make the College Football Playoff if it were to make it to the B1G Championship unbeaten and knock off the B1G East winner.

The 8-0 mark is the best start for the program since it started 9-0 in 2009. Iowa can tie that mark if it takes care of Indiana this weekend.
