Another name has surfaced as it pertains to the head basketball coaching job at Michigan.
Monday, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported that Providence head coach Ed Cooley is scheduled to meet with Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel regarding the vacant position. Manuel is also meeting with Juwan Howard this week, according to reports.
Cooley hasn’t been a name mentioned quite as much as the likes of Howard, Billy Donovan or others, but the Providence head coach would bring a successful background and plenty of experience to Ann Arbor.

Cooley has been the head coach at Providence since 2011 and has led the Friars to five NCAA Tournament appearances in eight years. They’ve also made two NIT appearances. Providence has had just one losing season under Cooley, the 2011-12 campaign, his first year on the job.
In eight years at Providence, Cooley has compiled a 162-110 record.
Prior to taking over at Providence, Cooley spent five years at Fairfield (2006-2011), and posted a 92-69 record. He won over 20 games in each of his final two years with the team.
Cooley spent time on Al Skinner’s staff as an assistant coach at Rhode Island and Boston College before becoming a head coach in 2006.
