Report: Hip surgery scheduled for Iowa’s Jordan Bohannon, next season’s status in question

Jordan Bohannon could potentially miss the 2019-20 basketball season due to surgery he’s having on an injured hip, the Des Moines Register reported on Tuesday.
Chad Leistikow reported on Tuesday that Bohannon is scheduled to have hip surgery on May 22 and expects a lengthy recovery and rehabilitation process. The surgery puts his availability for the upcoming season in jeopardy.
According to the report, Bohannon has played through pain for the last two seasons and wanted to “get his body right” before stepping on the court again. Bohannon’s operation will require bone to be shaved off his right hip and repair a labral tear.
The timetable for recovery is somewhere between five and nine months. Bohannon will have the ability to redshirt next season if he’ll miss substantial time.
Bohannon is Iowa’s all-time 3-point shot leader and has become famous in Iowa City for his heroics in late-game situations. He was expected to be one of the top returning talents in the B1G in 2019-20.
Last season, Bohannon averaged 11.6 points, 3.4 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game. He shot 38.1 percent from the floor.
