Michigan State University votes unanimously on new president

Michigan State University will have a new president come August 1.
Tuesday morning, the Michigan State University Board of Trustees voted unanimously to hire Samuel Stanley Jr. as the next president of the school, according to a report from David Jesse of the Detroit Free Press. Stanley will replace Satish Udpa, who served as acting president since January.

Stanley comes to Michigan State after serving as the president at Stony Brook University for a decade. He begin his tenure in May 2009 at the institution.
Michigan State University names a new president following a long, controversial situation in East Lansing that stems from the Larry Nassar abuse scandal. In January 2018, then-President Lou Anna Simon stepped down from her position following harsh criticism from the Nassar scandal.
After Simon’s resignation, Michigan State turned to John Engler to serve as the interim president. However, Engler served in the role for one year after controversial and embarrassing comments regarding the Nassar scandal and the victims of the assaults.
