Thursday was an emotional afternoon for Juwan Howard.
At Crisler Center on Thursday, Howard was officially introduced as the next head men’s basketball coach at the University of Michigan. Although the deal was done a week ago, it was still an unbelievable moment for the former Wolverines star.
When he was officially introduced by Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel, Howard was overcome with emotion, and struggled to make a statement. Tears filled his eyes and he turned away from the podium to gather himself.
“Tears of joy,” Howard said.
Howard’s emotion showed just how special Michigan is to him and how thrilled he is to become the next head coach of the program. Here’s the video from the introductory press conference in which Howard was welcomed back to Ann Arbor:
