Criticizing Tom Brady is nothing new, but the future Hall of Fame quarterback is catching some serious heat over a recent nickname he’s working on trademarking.

According to MLive.com, Brady’s company, TEB Capital, has filed a trademark for the nickname “Tom Terrific.” It seems like a fairly innocent nickname, but for fans of the New York Mets, that nickname is reserved for pitching great Tom Seaver.

Seaver won 311 games as a pitcher and earned the nickname “Tom Terrific” before Brady was even born. Seaver never felt the need to trademark the name, but Brady is working on that process with the intent to sell merchandise.

It hasn’t been sitting well with Mets fans and some media.

Brady hasn’t been one to worry about winning over fans outside Boston throughout his career. If he continues to pursue the trademark, New York certainly won’t be welcoming to the Patriots quarterback anytime soon.
