Several coaches say they love to recruit players who participate in multiple sports at the prep level. Mark Dantonio might be taking that to the next level.

Recently, two Michigan State football recruits were selected in the 2019 MLB Draft. Jase Bowen, a wide receiver/cornerback recruit was picked in the 11th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Adam Berghorst, a defensive end, was taken in the 14th round by the Texas Rangers.

Both are members of the Spartans’ incoming 2019 recruiting class.

A big reason why both Bowen and Berghorst committed to Michigan State was to have the ability to play football and baseball for the Spartans. As both were three-star prospects on the football field and they were each selected in the MLB Draft, Bowen and Berghorst have obviously proven they’re capable of being two-sport athletes.

Michigan State may have had one of the best football-baseball athletes of all-time, as legend Kirk Gibson also attended the school in the 1970s. He’s a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and was also a two-time World Series champion.

Who knows, maybe Bowen and Berghorst could enjoy similar success on the gridiron and diamond before it’s all said and done.
