A former Illinois linebacker has decided to finish his college football career in the Mountain West.

Jacob Hollins announced via Instagram that he will be continuing his career at Fresno State. He will have three seasons of eligibility remaining but will have to sit out the 2019 campaign due to NCAA transfer rules, unless he is granted a waiver.

“I would like to announce that I’m transferring to Fresno State to continue my football career,” Hollins wrote on his Instagram account.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker was a two-star prospect according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He initially committed to play at Idaho before receiving a late offer from the Fighting Illini. A native of the Fresno area, Hollins’ return to California will be a homecoming.

Hollins appeared in eight games in his debut season at Illinois, primarily as a special teams player. He finished the year with seven tackles, including 0.5 for loss.
