A recent meeting in New York between Ezekiel Elliott and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has left the Dallas Cowboys running back issuing a public apology.

On Tuesday, Elliott and Goodell reportedly met in New York to talk about an incident that occurred in Las Vegas in May. Elliott, who was attending a music festival, allegedly bumped into a security guard at the event, causing him to trip and fall over a guardrail. The running back was briefly detained, but he was not arrested or charged.

The incident occurred after Elliott and a woman were having a verbal argument. The security guard said something to Elliott, and he appeared to bump into the security guard.

Elliott issued a public apology via Twitter on Tuesday. Here was his message:

Earlier today, I met with the Commissioner to share with him what occurred in Las Vegas and what I have learned from that incident.

I’ve worked hard to make better decisions and to live up to the high standards that are expected of me.

I failed to do that here and I made a poor decision.

I apologized to Kyle Johnson at the time and I meant it.

I need to work harder to ensure I do not put myself in compromised situations in the future. I am rededicating myself to use all of the resources that the league has made available. But in the end, it is up to me and I am determined not to be in this position again.

Though Elliott was not charged or arrested for the incident, the running back could face a fine or suspension under the NFL’s personal conduct policy. It is unclear if he will face any repercussions for his actions at this time.
