Next court appearance set for Nebraska RB Maurice Washington

Maurice Washington’s next court date won’t come until after Nebraska kicks off the 2019 season, according to a report from the Omaha World-Herald.
Thursday, the Omaha World-Herald reported that Washington is due to appear in Santa Clara (Calif.) County Superior Court on Sept. 3, three days after the Huskers open the year against South Alabama (Aug. 31). Washington faces one felony charge and one misdemeanor charge.
Head coach Scott Frost is in “wait and see” mode before taking any action on Washington. He’s been participating in camp with the team, but whether or not he’ll play in the season opener is unknown.
It becomes even more complicated with Washington’s court date set after the Week 1 game.
Washington is accused of violating California’s revenge porn law after allegedly sending a video that showed a 15-year-old girl performing a sex act to the same girl years later. The girl alleges she was assaulted in the video.
According to reports, Washington was not involved in the assault, nor did he record the video. The video was recorded in 2016 and he sent the message in 2018.
Washington faces a felony charge of possession of a video of a person under 18 engaging in or simulating sexual conduct.
Charges were filed against Washington in February.
