The Locksley family received some good news Friday, but this time it involved Kai Locksley and his status with the UTEP football team.

Nick Patrick with KVIA.com shared the news that the younger Locksley was reinstated to the Miners team Friday. Kai had been suspended since his arrest in June.

Jim Senter, UTEP’s Director of Athletics, indicated the university felt it would benefit Locksley to experience the support and guidance of the team:

While the legal process has not come to a complete conclusion, we believe that the final charges against Kai will not be as severe as what has been reported, Senter said.  Young people make mistakes and it is important that they learn from these mistakes.  We believe in restorative justice and feel that Kai will benefit more in the long run by getting the necessary support and guidance from his coaches and teammates, rather than being dismissed from the team.

Locksley was arrested on June 8 and charged with driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, unlawful carrying of a weapon, and terroristic threats. Kai is the son of Maryland head coach Mike Locksley. He threw for 937 yards and three TDs in 2018.
