WR depth a concern for Illinois after another season-ending injury

Depth at the wide receiver position has been an issue for Illinois over the last few seasons. And it’s going to be a concern again in 2019, at least that’s how it appears.
On Saturday, Illini head coach Lovie Smith confirmed that Appalachian State transfer and receiver Shaedon Meadors will miss the 2019 season due to a serious injury. The actual severity and nature of the injury is still unknown at this time, according to Illini Inquirer.
“Shaedon had a serious injury so he will not be playing football for us this year. He will end up taking a medical scholarship,” Smith said. “He’ll be around the program helping any way he can.”
Per Illini Inquirer, Meadors struggled during Illinois’ training camp and was in a walking boot in July.
Meadors was targeted by the Illinois staff to add depth at the receiver position. He had a strong career at Appalachian State, though he also battled the injury bug there. He totaled 81 catches for 1,442 yards and eight touchdowns in three seasons with the Mountaineers.
This will be the third-straight season Meadors has missed due to injury. He last saw action in the 2016 college football season.
