The B1G has caught heat a lot for its absence from and performance in the College Football Playoff over the last four years. The league hasn’t scored a point in four seasons in the four-team format, and has been omitted from the field the last two seasons.

When it comes to New Year’s Six bowls, though, the B1G has delivered some strong performances.

Since the implementation of the New Year’s Six bowls and the College Football Playoff, the B1G has played in 15 high-stakes bowl games. The league has posted a 9-6 record in those games, the best percentage of any major conference in the sport.

Yes, that includes the mighty SEC.

According to a graphic from Big Ten Network, here’s a look at how the Power Five conferences have fared in New Year’s Six Bowl games over the last five years:

  • B1G: 9-6 (.600)
  • ACC: 7-5 (.583)
  • SEC: 10-9 (.526)
  • Big 12: 3-5 (.375)
  • Pac-12: 3-6 (.333)

Yes, it would be nice of the B1G had a few more championship trophies — or even playoff appearances — to complement that statistic. But the league isn’t rolling over in these major bowl games, despite what some might want you to believe.

We’ll see if the league can finally crack back into the College Football Playoff while maintaining strong showings in the New Year’s Six bowl games.
