Purdue hasn’t played a football game yet this fall, but the Boilermakers got a huge victory on the recruiting trail on Tuesday afternoon.

Four-star Texas native Christian Gonzalez announced via Twitter on Tuesday that he is committing to Purdue. He becomes the 17th player to give his verbal pledge to the Boilermakers in the 2020 class and is the third-highest ranked prospect in the class currently.

“This recruiting process has definitely been a blessing,” Gonzalez wrote on Twitter. “I would also like to say thank you to all the coaches that believed in me and gave me an opportunity. With all that being said I am extremely excited to say I’m committed to Purdue University!!!”

Gonzalez, a native of The Colony, Texas, was a highly-sought after recruit with several big-time offers. He picked Purdue over Arizona State, Colorado, Notre Dame, Alabama, Ole Miss and several other programs.

According to his evaluation on 247Sports, Gonzalez has excellent versatility and excellent instinctiveness. He plays aggressively and is able to make plays on the football regularly. Gonzalez checks in as one of the top 325 players in the 2020 class and is the No. 47 player out of Texas.

With Gonzalez’s commitment, Purdue jumps into the top five in the B1G recruiting rankings, sitting at No. 5. The Boilermakers now are 25th nationally.
