When Cincinnati travels to Ohio State on September 7, the Buckeyes will see a familiar face on the sideline. He may even step on the field against his former team.
On Wednesday morning, Justin Williams of The Athletic reported that L’Christian “Blue” Smith received an immediate eligibility waiver from the NCAA. The former Buckeye will be able to compete for Cincinnati in the 2019 season, a huge boost for Luke Fickell and company.

Smith, a former four-star prospect and one of the top 150 players in the 2018 recruiting class, decided to leave Ohio State after just one season with the program. He was expected to have a pivotal role with the Buckeyes in his career.
Due to major competition at the wide receiver position in Columbus, Smith was redshirted as a freshman in 2018. He’ll have four years of eligibility remaining with the Bearcats.
He should provide a spark at the receiver position for the Bearcats and could make a quick impact in the offense.
Cincinnati and Ohio State will meet in The Shoe on Sept. 7. The Bearcats haven’t beaten the Buckeyes since the 1890s.
