At Ohio State, impactful freshmen come into the program each and every year.

Sometimes, these freshmen may not see the field right away, but they still have to earn the right to be officially called Buckeyes. How do they do that?

By working hard, impressing coaches and getting their black stripes removed.

Prior to Thursday, seven Buckeye freshmen have accomplished the honor.

On Thursday, an eighth freshmen was surprised to find out when he became an official member of Ohio State’s football program:

The reveal for Bryson Shaw — a 3-star safety from Potomac, Md. — came during a magic act, which all the Buckeyes seemed to enjoy.

Ohio State’s 2019 season kicks off on Aug. 31 at home against Florida Atlantic.
