Minnesota’s 2019 season kicked off Thursday night South Dakota State and it took the Golden Gophers some time to truly get into the game.

The first quarter went scoreless, but with 9:52 left in the second quarter, Minnesota broke the 0-0 tie. Prior to the 1-yard TD run by Seth Green, the 18-play, 91-yard drive was continued by a great 30-yard catch-and-run by wide receiver Rashon Bateman.

The drive in its entirety lasted 10:05.

Here’s Bateman making a key play for the Gophers:

You see Bateman’s hands, quickness, strength and overall vision on this play. There are great wide receivers out there in college football, without a doubt. But Bateman is one of a handful of Gophers play-makers that deserves to get more attention.

The Minnesota-South Dakota State game is currently airing on FS1.
