During the offseason, Scott Frost said he wanted to hit opponents in the mouth. He wanted Nebraska to bring back its physical brand of play.

Lamar Jackson has taken that to heart. In the Huskers’ season opener against South Alabama, the cornerback has already delivered one of the biggest hits of the afternoon.

In the first half of Saturday’s opener in Lincoln, Jackson lit up South Alabama quarterback Cephus Johnson, forcing a fumble that was recovered by the Huskers. It was the kind of hit that Frost will love to see from his defenders all year long.

Jackson is one of the better defenders on Nebraska’s roster. Last season, he totaled 28 tackles, broke up seven passes and registered two interceptions.

Early in his senior season, Jackson can add a forced fumble to his stat line.
