Chase Young has been considered one of the top defensive linemen in college football this season. But FAU head coach Lane Kiffin took the praise to an entirely new level after seeing the defensive end in action up close.

Kiffin, who spent three years as the offensive coordinator at Alabama, compared Young to former Texas A&M standout and former No. 1 overall pick Myles Garrett after suffering a 45-21 loss in Columbus. It’s probably one of the best compliments the Buckeye lineman has received.

“Guy’s a great player and will change your whole game plan like a Myles Garrett does,” Kiffin said, according to Eleven Warriors. “We saw it happen.”

“I can see why they talk about him being the first pick in the draft,” Kiffin said. “The guy’s a special player, and he really changed the first half by himself. We had some plays that were going to be there and he makes plays. They’re a very talented team. We just played a top-five team.”

Kiffin, of course, had to game plan for Garrett during his time with the Crimson Tide.

Young led the charge on a defense that registered four sacks and 12 tackles for loss against FAU in the season opener. He finished the first game of his junior campaign with 1.5 sacks  and five total stops, as well as a pass deflection.

And he’s just getting started.

Young has been perceived as a potential top five pick by the likes of NFL Draft experts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay. But, according to Kiffin, Young has the potential to challenge as the No. 1 overall pick at the end of the year.

We’ve only seen him play one game this season.
