It was a big Saturday for quite a few Big Ten football programs, and the BIG Network sorted through it all Sunday evening to pick their top standout players from Week 1.

Former college football coach Glen Mason made the obvious choice, picking Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields as his standout player.

Fields started very fast against Florida Atlantic, leading the Buckeyes on four-touchdown drives in the first quarter. Things slowed a little from there, but Fields still finished with 234 passing yards, 61 rushing yards and five total touchdowns. Ohio State beat FAU, 45-21.

Maryland blew out its opponent as well, beating Howard, 79-0. Terrapins quarterback Josh Jackson had a huge day, causing BIG Network host Dave Revsine to pick him as his standout player.

Jackson threw for 245 yards with four touchdowns on just 24 attempts and didn’t have any interceptions.

The final standout player according to this BIG panel came from Joshua Perry, and he went with a defensive player — Illinois linebacker Milo Eifler. The junior defender led the Fighting Illini defense, posting 2.0 tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss and one pass defense.

Illinois knocked off Akron, 42-3.
