This is not good news for Melvin Gordon.

The former Wisconsin Badgers star running back is now with the Los Angeles Chargers in the NFL. He has been impressive, rushing for over 3,600 yards and adding over 1,500 receiving yards in four NFL seasons. Gordon has 38 total touchdowns and is a key part of the Chargers’ offense.

To begin 2019, Gordon has held out in hopes of obtaining a new contract with the team. He skipped training camp and the preseason, but it appears his holdout was to no avail.

According to Joe Reedy with the Associated Press, Los Angeles Chargers GM Tom Telesco indicated on a conference call Sunday that the team is suspending contract talks with Gordon as the season approaches. Gordon will be placed on the team’s “did not report” list as the Chargers focus on getting ready for the season with the players available:

“We have to get focused on the season and our next opponent,” Telesco said. The Chargers host Indianapolis in the Sept. 8 season opener.

Fans hoping to see Gordon in action will have to wait a bit longer this season.
