Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm: ‘Can’t allow one loss to impact the next game’

Speaking to the media during his weekly press conference on the Purdue University campus in West Lafayette, Indiana, Boilermakers head coach Jeff Brohm addressed his team’s Week 1 collapse against Nevada.

A rather obvious statement, but turnovers were Purdue’s undoing in what was a 17-point third quarter lead.
Redshirt senior QB Elijah Sindelar did a lot of good things, going 34-52 for 423 yards and four touchdowns. However, he also threw two interceptions that allowed Nevada to get back in the game.
Purdue won the time of possession battle, 31:23 to 28:37, and outgained the Wolfpack, 519-404. If not for the recklessness with the football, Brohm and his team likely would have got out of Reno with a win.
“I think too many people relaxed, took deep breaths because we had a lead,” Brohm elaborated.
The Boilermakers raced out to a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and took a 24-7 lead into halftime. Leading 31-17 entering the fourth quarter, Purdue surrendered 17 unanswered points.
“Can’t allow one loss to impact the next game,” Brohm said.
Looking to put this collapse behind them, the Boilermakers close out their non-conference schedule with back-to-back Power Five opponents. Purdue hosts Vanderbilt on Saturday and follows that up with their showdown with the TCU Horned Frogs on September 14.
