A few Iowa players are banged up after the first week of the season, and there’s some variation on when they could return to the field.

During his weekly press conference on Tuesday, Kirk Ferentz offered an update on a few injured Hawkeyes ahead of the team’s Week 2 game against Rutgers on Saturday.

Offensive lineman Alaric Jackson is expected to miss at least the next two games against Rutgers and Iowa State with a knee sprain. There’s a shot he comes back after Iowa’s bye week on Sept. 21 in time to play Middle Tennessee on Sept. 28.

Defensive backs Julius Brents and Riley Moss are also expected to miss some time with injuries. Brents will miss a few weeks while Moss is expected to be out for at least four to six weeks.

Cole Banwart, another offensive lineman, will have a shot to return to the field this week in the B1G opener against Rutgers.

It’s early, but Iowa has already been bit by the injury bug a little bit. Fortunately, the Hawkeyes do have an early bye week before diving into the meat of the B1G schedule.
