Michigan State’s special teams group has reportedly taken a hit.

On Wednesday, Matt Wenzel of MLive.com reported that sophomore punter Bryce Baringer is no longer listed on the Spartans’ roster. He was a reserve punter behind starter Jake Hartbarger, who handled those duties in Michigan State’s opener against Tulsa.

Last season, Baringer appeared in four games for the Spartans, as the team struggled with keeping punters healthy. Hartbarger suffered a season-ending injury in a Week 2 loss to Arizona State last fall, which prompted Dantonio to use different punters throughout the year.

Baringer used his leg on 15 punts last season, averaging 32.4 yards per boot. He totaled 486 punting yards in those four games.

Hartbarger punted five times for the Spartans on Saturday in a 28-7 win over Tulsa. He averaged 47.4 yards per kick on those attempts.

Michigan State hosts Western Michigan on Saturday.
