Northwestern learned some disappointing news this week, as quarterback TJ Green will be sidelined for the remainder of the season following foot surgery. Head coach Pat Fitzgerald made the announcement on Thursday.
Green suffered a foot injury during the Wildcats’ 17-7 loss to Stanford on Saturday in Palo Alto. He stepped in to relieve a struggling Hunter Johnson early in the contest, and finished the day with 62 passing yards and 10 yards on the ground, completing 6-of-10 passes.
Following the news, there was an outpouring of support coming from Northwestern fans, former players and current teammates. Green was appreciative of the kind words, and issued a thank via Twitter on Thursday afternoon.
“Thank you all!” Green wrote. “And thank you to family, friends, and everyone else that has been there for me through all of this. You have no idea the positive impact you’ve had on me. The road to recovery starts now!”

Green has played sparingly during his career at Northwestern, but was right in the heat of the starting quarterback battle with Johnson through fall camp. And when he stepped on the field against Stanford on Saturday, the Wildcats’ offense instantly looked better.
Now, Northwestern has to battle depth issues at the quarterback position for the rest of the season. The Wildcats have an off week before returning to the field next Saturday.
