Army jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on No. 7 Michigan in Ann Arbor to start Week 2.

The Army defense was holding the Wolverines’ new-look offense under offensive coordinator Josh Gattis the entire first quarter and late in the opening period, Michigan was faced with a 4th-and-10 on its own 42-yard-line.

The Wolverines decided to spice things up a bit and go for it. But, not in the conventional way. Michigan got tricky with a fake punt:

This fake punt was beautifully executed. The direct snap went to Michael Barrett, who was essentially right behind the center. He then flung the ball out to Daxton Hill, who was wide open.

Was this an intended call? Maybe. On the other hand, if Michigan sees that one of its gunners is wide open, its players may have the ability to see that right before the play gets going and essentially audible to it.

Regardless, hats off to the Wolverines on this one. Michigan went on to score a TD thanks to RB Zach Charbonnet. The game can be seen on FOX.
