Ohio State is looking for its third straight B1G East title, but capturing the division will be no easy task this season.
In addition to the Buckeyes; Michigan, Penn State, and Michigan State make the East one of the deepest divisions in the country. Many analysts picked Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines to finally capture the division coming into 2019, but a fast start by the Buckeyes has thrust Ryan Day’s squad back into the driver’s seat.

Though many expect the season-ending rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State will decide the division, there are two units that could pose problems and shake things up this year. ESPN analyst Rece Davis broke down the division on College GameDay, and he picked the Michigan State defense and Maryland’s offense as two units that could trip teams up this season:
“The B1G East,” said Davis, “There are two units that can upset things: it’s the Michigan State defense and Maryland’s offense that can potentially upset things in terms of the standings in that division.”
Mark Dantonio’s squad is always bound to have an elite defense capable of grinding out an upset, both at home or on the road. For Mike Locksley, his first year at Maryland is off to a roaring start with an average of 71 points per game to start the year. Even if that number comes down, the Terrapins have plenty of explosive players to cause problems against any defense.
