Braylon Edwards had a harsh take on the current state of the Wolverines.

The former All-American and 2004 Fred Biletnikoff Award winner recently sat down with The DA Show of CBS Sports Radio to discuss Michigan football. Though Edwards remains a fan of the program, he admits things have been rough for some time now.

In particular, Edwards was asked if he was worried that the Wolverines could be falling behind Ohio State. Unfortunately, he is concerned that has already happened:

“Falling? We fell,” former Michigan All-American Braylon Edwards said on The DA Show. “It’s past tense. We’re light years behind Ohio State right now.”

Edwards admitted his biggest concern for the program is how Jim Harbaugh has approached The Game with Ohio State to begin his tenure in Ann Arbor. He pointed out that Harbaugh told him he treats the rivalry as any other game on the schedule, but Edwards discussed how the Buckeyes operate with a year-long hatred and disdain for Michigan.

Harbaugh can say he treats every game the same, but Edwards knows certain games just mean more to teams:

“That’s not the way you approach that game,” he said. “I know it’s cliche to say you approach every team like you approach any other team. That’s B.S. You approach certain teams differently. We got to start approaching that game from the standpoint that they do. I feel like when we go into that game, you’re looking at two different preparation systems.”

“14-1, you tell me,” Edwards said. “14-1 in that game. We’re getting better at recruiting. We’re getting some better talent up there. Jim is bringing in the guys that can compete in that game. . . . I don’t know what it’s going to take, but something has to happen where a switch is flipped.”

To be fair, Michigan is still 2-0 on the season with its B1G opener set for Saturday against Wisconsin. In a year that saw the Wolverines favored to win the conference, everything remains ahead of the team in terms of what they can accomplish. But there’s no denying the first two games of the season have been a bit underwhelming.
