Tom Allen has provided an update on injured Indiana quarterback Michael Penix Jr., though it’ll still be a bit before we officially learn of his status for Saturday’s game against UConn.

Thursday, Allen said that Penix has practiced some over the last week, though he’s been limited. The redshirt freshman is making progress but is still day-to-day at the time being. Jon Blau of the Herald Times provided the update on Thursday morning.

Penix didn’t play at all during Indiana’s 51-10 loss against Ohio State and his absence was noticeable. The Hoosiers didn’t have much of a deep threat through the passing attack and not having his dual-threat ability hurt IU in the run game.

Backup and previous starter Peyton Ramsey took the snaps for the Hoosiers against Ohio State. He will likely be under center again this week if Penix cannot go. Indiana also has former four-star quarterback Jack Tuttle on the roster.

Penix played in the first two games of the season, leading IU to wins over Ball State and Eastern Illinois.
