Indiana coach Tom Allen has kept who will start at quarterback this week under wraps. At least he did until Saturday morning.
In an interview with Indiana radio voice Don Fischer, Allen revealed Peyton Ramsey will start at quarterback again this week.
“Michael (Penix) has worked hard this week to get back,” Allen said. “(He’s) Not quite ready yet, so Peyton (Ramsey) is going to be our guy today. But excited about both of those guys, and Jack (Tuttle) as well.”
Penix hasn’t played since the first half of Indiana’s 52-0 victory against Eastern Illinois two weeks ago. Ramsey started last Saturday in the blowout loss to Ohio State.
In two games, Penix has averaged 8.7 yards per attempt with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Ramsey’s stats are similar, as he’s posted 8.3 yards per pass with two touchdowns and one interception, but Penix is a better deep threat, and he also brings an ability to run the ball to the table.
The other quarterback Allen referenced is freshman Jack Tuttle, who was a 4-star prospect in the 2018 recruiting class.
