Penn State and Maryland will get the Week 5 B1G slate started off Friday evening and it is shaping up to be an intriguing contest.

Maryland and head coach Mike Locksley are 2-1 entering the game, but the Terrapins enter coming off of a tough result. After an electric start to the season, the offense never got moving in a 20-17 loss to Temple.

On the other side of the ball, Penn State most recently escaped with a 17-10 victory against in-state rival Pittsburgh. Before that, the Nittany Lions rolled in wins over Idaho and Buffalo.

Both teams possess plenty of speed and firepower on the offensive side of the ball, and it will be interesting to see how it shakes out. It will be the conference opener for each team with the winner securing a key divisional win early in the season.

According to ESPN’s FPI, one team is a clear favorite for the game. The FPI is currently giving Penn State a 70.9% chance to come away with the win on the road.

While the Nittany Lions definitely look like the more talented team on paper and are entering the contest ranked No. 12, do not count the Terrapins out just yet. Locksley’s squad has plenty of playmakers and will no doubt be hungry to secure an early upset in front of their home crowd.
