Helping stake the No. 20 Michigan Wolverines to a 24-0 halftime lead over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, senior quarterback Shea Patterson played his most impressive football of the 2019 season.
Completing 12-15 passes, he threw for 183 yards in the first half and found junior wide receiver Nico Collins for a 48-yard score on the game’s opening drive.
While Patterson has just three rushing yards, he has shown off his dual-threat ability with two rushing touchdowns, too. His two-yard run in the first quarter was his first rushing touchdown in eight games, and his four-yard score in the second quarter marked the first game with multiple rushing touchdowns of his collegiate career.
Executing some beautiful play-action with freshman running back Zach Charbonnet, Michigan on BTN provided video of Patterson’s second rushing score on Twitter:

His second year as the starter in Ann Arbor, the beginning of the 2019 season has not gone according to plan for Patterson. Struggling with fumbles, he was benched during the team’s 35-14 loss to the No. 8 Wisconsin Badgers on September 21 in favor of redshirt sophomore Dylan McCaffrey.
Ultimately re-entering the game after McCaffrey suffered a concussion, Patterson threw two late scores to redshirt senior tight end Sean McKeon and junior wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones in the loss.
If the Wolverines can seal the deal against the Scarlet Knights, they will enter their home showdown with the No. 14 Iowa Hawkeyes at 3-1 on October 5.
The Rutgers game is currently airing on BTN.
