Joe Burrow talks about Urban Meyer’s toughness on him, says Meyer said he ‘threw like a girl’

Urban Meyer knows quarterbacks.
He knows how to get the most out of quarterbacks. Whether it is Utah, Florida, Ohio State or any place he has been, Meyer has done well with signal callers time and time again.
While in Columbus, Meyer wanted Joe Burrow to join the Buckeyes and Burrow did just that. However, Burrow struggled to see the field. With guys ahead of him like J.T. Barrett, Cardale Jones and Dwayne Haskins, it’s not difficult to see why he didn’t get much playing time, though.

So, Burrow transferred to LSU. And now, he’s one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy.
However, while being a Buckeye, Burrow talked recently with 247Sports about what it was like playing for Meyer, being a backup and being a young QB at one point in time.
On how much arm strength has improved over the course of his college career:
“In the last year, maybe a little bit. Not too much. From freshman year, it’s like night and day. I could barely throw the ball 50 yards back then, but that’s just getting older, I’m getting stronger and being in the weight room.”
On Urban Meyer saying he threw like a girl:
“Yea, coach Meyer when he gets a new quarterback there as a freshman, he kind of pokes and prods them to see what they can take and then if they can go out and execute while he’s back there yelling at them so he kind of mimics environments you’re going to see on the road so he wants to see if their quarterbacks can handle it so he would be back there yelling at me saying, ‘You’re a DII quarterback, you can’t throw’ and just see if you can handle it as a quarterback.”
It seemed as though that Burrow didn’t necessarily have an incredible arm — in terms of arm strength. And, Meyer tested him. Like Burrow said, Meyer wanted to see if he could handle the environments he would be surrounded in if he was a starting quarterback.
Burrow may not have had a huge arm back then, but right now, at LSU, he is getting it done. The Tigers are winning and Burrow has been a big reason why.
If not for Meyer testing him, and even calling him a Division III quarterback, who knows where Burrow would be at now?
