Illinois had a week off to prepare for Minnesota this past Saturday. The Illini were coming off a 42-38 loss to Nebraska the week prior. Some improvement was made.
What did Illinois do against the Golden Gophers, though?
Lose 40-17.

It wasn’t close. And some have to wonder how? Lovie Smith, Illinois’ coach, spoke with the media Monday about numerous topics, but he brought up the upcoming Michigan game scheduled for a noon ET kickoff this Saturday:
#illini Lovie: I can't wait until the day we're talking about our defense (like Michigan's)

#illini Lovie: Peters knew Michigan was on the schedule. I know he's pumped up. Hoping he'll be ready to go this week.

Smith brought up how he wants his defense to be talked about the way Michigan’s is. Illinois is far from that as it stands. He also talked about his quarterback, Brandon Peters, who transferred from Michigan.
Everyone knows that revenge will be sought after for Peters, though the former Wolverine left the game against Minnesota this past weekend.
Illinois-Michigan will be televised on ABC.
