Iowa has announced its honorary captain for Saturday night’s showdown against Penn State at Kinnick Stadium. It’s a good one.
Former Hawkeyes quarterback Ricky Stanzi will be the team’s honorary captain on Saturday night, who was the quarterback in Iowa City from 2008-10. He will accompany the team to midfield for the pregame coin toss and will be with the Hawkeyes before and after the game in the locker room.
Stanzi started 35 games at Iowa and posted a 26-9 overall record. He finished with a 10-1 mark in 2009. He led the Hawkeyes to three bowl victories and started in three career games against Penn State. He won all three.
Stanzi finished his career at Iowa with 7,377 passing yards and 56 touchdown passes. He also set an Iowa record for throwing a touchdown pass in 21 consecutive games.
Following his career at Iowa, Stanzi was drafted in the fifth–round of the 2011 NFL Draft and had a five-year career in professional football.
Iowa and Penn State are set for a 7:44 ET kickoff, with coverage beginning at 7:30.
